Past

AW Removals was formed in 1972 by Russ Allen and operated on Dunstable Road in Luton. Soon developing a Haulage arm working with companies like Whitbread’s.  Expansion led to the relocation to Wingate Road Luton in the early 80’s and soon after, as the fleet of vehicles grew, AW Commercial repairs was formed and carried out maintenance on their own fleet and repairs and maintenance for other local hauliers and drivers.

No project was too big for AW Haulage with the now famous move of the Redcoat aircraft fuselage across Luton Airport in the mid 80’s still taking pride of place as a picture in AW House.

In 1988 AW Removals was sold to another local removal company, Stephen’s removals, allowing AW Haulage and AW Commercial repairs to be the focus of the business .

Steady growth of the AW group led to the next move to Chaul End Lane, Luton in and a redevelopment of the site led to the opening of Luton Truckstop which included Restaurant, Bar and accommodation of drivers .

The next stage in the AW history came in 2005 when Luton Truckstop was sold and Dominion house in Luton Town Centre was purchased and renamed AW House. Packhorse place was also purchased in Kensworth, and the transport and commercial repairs arms relocated there until 2009. Original plans to create a hotel were changed when a large tenant was found, and the building refurbished to make way for incoming tenants.   Having been empty for a number of years, the AW team worked hard to create a clean, welcoming atmosphere that we work hard to maintain to this day.  The company prides itself on the high-quality office space it provides, adapting to the times by splitting some of the larger spaces to create varying sized office space, perfect for today’s changing climate.

Present

AW House is currently managed by a small team, some of whom have been with the company over twenty years.  Made up of our reception, maintenance, cleaning and administration departments, the team work hard to keep the building clean, safe, and up to date with all current regulations, they make every effort to work closely with tenants, helping them make the most of AW House.  Some of our current tenants have been with us for years and our team work hard to keep it that way.

The simple fact is that AW House is what it is because of the hard work and dedication of our team, without them and the work they put in, neither the building nor the company would be what it is today.

‘Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.’

Future

Our intention is the building will stay as it is, part of a family business that will be handed down through the generations of the Allen family.  Our three granddaughters are already regular visitors and even have their own AW House t-shirts like the rest of our team!
